Mr. Edmonds was born in Miami, Florida and lived there until he was 11 years old. Mr. Edmonds' fond memories of his childhood in Miami include attending Epiphany Catholic School, catching movies at The Falls, and having fun at the Dade County Youth Fair. After 11 years in Miami, Mr. Edmonds then spent the next 11 years growing up in Naples, Florida.
While attending the University of Florida College of Law, Mr. Edmonds earned honors recognition for three semesters and received two Book Awards (an award issued for earning the highest grade) in Trial Practice and in an Advanced Course titled The Supreme Court and the Family, which was taught by Barbara Bennett Woodhouse who had clerked for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of the U.S. Supreme Court.
While attending the University of Florida College of Law, Mr. Edmonds was a member of the Justice Campbell Thornal Moot Court Team. As a member of the Moot Court Team Mr. Edmonds competed in several moot court competitions. He competed nationally in a moot court competition in New York City, contributing to the writing and oral argument of an appellate brief dealing with Bankruptcy law and related issues. His team reached the quarter-finals. Mr. Edmonds also twice competed in the Stetson University College of Law International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, coaching a team to a 2nd place award for their written Brief in 2002. Mr. Edmonds also served on the Executive Board of the Moot Court Team for two semesters and was in charge of the Moot Court Team's competition through which new members were selected.
While attending the University of Florida College of Law, Mr. Edmonds was also a member of the Journal of Law and Public Policy. While a member of the Journal of Law and Public Policy, Mr. Edmonds served on the Executive Board and was in charge of the Journal's competition through which new members were selected.
While attending the University of Florida College of Law, Mr. Edmonds balanced the rigorous demands of law school with a job as an assistant to an attorney who worked as a solo practitioner. Mr. Edmonds worked diligently for nearly three years during law school for a solo practitioner who represented clients in various litigation matters as well as Real Estate matters. While working for this solo practitioner, he assisted in the litigation of various civil disputes, including small business disputes, landlord-tenant disputes, construction litigation, and boundary disputes. Mr. Edmonds also assisted in the litigation of numerous family law cases dealing with child custody and financial issues.
Mr. Edmonds also ganied invaluable experience working for a West Palm Beach law firm that handled personal injury and medical malpractice cases, representing plaintiffs as well as defending insurance companies against such suits. This West Palm Beach firm handled Civil Rights cases as well.
After law school, Mr. Edmonds completed nearly one and one half years at the Office of the State Attorney in Lee County, Florida, where he prosecuted hundreds of DUI cases, Domestic Violence and Battery cases, Criminal Traffic cases, Petit Theft cases, Drug cases, and numerous other misdemeanor cases. While working at the State Attorney's office Mr. Edmonds spent many hours in the courtroom, handling bench trials as well as pre-trial motions and other pre-trial court appearances. Mr. Edmonds also gained invaluable experience trying multiple cases in front of a jury.
Mr. Edmonds is a member of The Florida Bar and is a former member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA). Mr. Edmonds also previously served as a Director on the Board of Directors of the Gulf Coast Humane Society (formerly the Humane Society of Lee County). Mr. Edmonds was also a policy-issuing agent of Attorneys' Title Insurance Fund for nearly five years and a former policy-issuing agent of Old Republic National Title Insurance Company by way of his membership with The Fund.
